About Us

Newport Community Church was founded by a small group of families and friends living on Aquidneck Island who desired a local Christian church committed to exalting God's Word (Psalm 138:2).

Our logo, drawn from Psalm 119:114 provides a visual reminder that God Himself shields believers while His Word provides a present and future hope. The pineapples, associated with the history and culture of Newport, are used to represent the Divine welcome and fellowship available to all through faith in God's Son, Jesus Christ. See our Statement of Faith.

Barr A. Flynn is the Pastor and Teacher of Newport Community Church. In 1982, while in the Navy, God brought him to personal faith in Jesus Christ through the ministry of the Navigators.  He is currently enrolled at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Prior to this ministry, he worked as a social worker, high school teacher, and school administrator. Pastor Flynn lives with his wife Ruth in Newport, Rhode Island.

Ralph T. Lewis was installed as an Elder in Newport Community Church on September 24, 2006. Elder Lewis continues full time employment as an attorney in private practice. He came to know Jesus Christ on November 22, 1999 through the witness of his brother, Jeffrey. Elder Lewis lives with wife Liz and their 3 children, Luke, Alyssa, and Sarah, in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
